Government decides on third competition to find anti-corruption chief



Riga, 30 July: The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers resolved today that the second competition organized to find the head of the new anti-corruption office had also ended without results and another competition shall be announced, Justice Minister Ingrida Labucka told reporters after the cabinet meeting.

Applications in the third competition for the chief of the Office for Prevention and Abatement of Corruption (KNAB) will be accepted by 12 August.

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Berzins is not pleased that yet another competition has to be organized but there is no other way under the law and it was the cabinets decision.

He also said the government had rejected the proposal to appoint an acting KNAB chief because it is "in the competence of parliament".
